Economic Chamber Is Actively Working to Normalize the Flow of Food Products at the Macedonian-Kosovar Border

07/05/2025

The Economic Chamber, following reports from member exporters regarding the unjustified detention of Macedonian trucks transporting food products into the territory of Kosovo—allegedly due to waiting for the results of laboratory analyses—has formally addressed the relevant national institutions, requesting the urgent undertaking of necessary measures and the normalization of the flow of goods.

According to information received from domestic export companies, trucks from the RN Macedonia are being held on the Kosovar side of the border without proper explanation, causing economic damage and disrupting trade. Since these are food products that must comply with health and safety standards, the flow must be uninterrupted to avoid disrupting the operations of domestic exporters, which may also lead to financial consequences.

To address this, a meeting is scheduled today, Wednesday, 7 May 2025, between the President of the Economic Chamber, Branko Azeski, and the President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Lulzim Rafuna, in order to find a solution and unblock the current holdup. The goal is to enable trucks with Macedonian goods to reach their final destinations, in support of exports as a top priority for the Macedonian economy.

The Economic Chamber is undertaking all necessary measures, has informed the relevant institutions, and has emphasized that such situations cause serious economic harm to Macedonian exporters and transport companies. They create unjustified trade barriers with a partner with whom we have good relations and a trade surplus, thereby violating regional trade agreements and standards for the free movement of goods.
