On 29 April 2025, a significant meeting was held at the Bechtel-ENKA camp in Gostivar between the company’s management and domestic companies that are members of the Association of Construction at the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia. This event, organized within the framework of the cooperation between Bechtel-ENKA and the Economic Chamber, aimed to deepen collaboration and increase the involvement of domestic construction companies in the completion of Corridors 8 and 10-d—two of the most important infrastructure projects in the country and the wider region.
Josh Baker, Project Manager at Bechtel-ENKA, expressed gratitude for the constructive collaboration with the Chamber and the strong interest shown by domestic companies. He highlighted that currently around 60% of the project’s suppliers are local, as well as more than 90% of the subcontractors, with the goal of increasing this participation even further. “We look forward to building deep and cooperative partnerships with talented domestic companies and working together to achieve the highest standards of safety and quality,” said Baker. He added that despite initial delays due to expropriation, construction activities on the Gostivar–Bukojchani and Prilep–Bitola sections are progressing steadily, while the Tetovo–Gostivar section is entering a phase of intensified activation.
“For over 35 years, Bechtel-ENKA has successfully delivered motorway projects across the Balkans, thanks to strong cooperation between our directly employed teams and subcontractors, most of whom come from the local market where we operate. This partnership model—built on teamwork, mutual learning, and shared commitment—is the key to our success. On our current project, we are continuing this approach, and we are already seeing promising results in areas where we have involved subcontractors. At Bechtel-ENKA, we don’t delegate responsibilities and then step back; we work side-by-side with our subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and timely delivery. This joint effort is essential for achieving the highest standards throughout the project,” emphasized Canberk Atilla, Deputy Project Manager – Construction and Site Manager.
Chris Hinspeeter, Business Project Manager, added that Bechtel-ENKA is committed to transparency in procurement and subcontracting processes. “We want this process to be open and accessible. The more local companies join, the stronger the project will be,” he stated.
Technical managers Özkan Doğan (Subcontracting), Hakan Bilay (Earthworks), Fatih Kurt (Structures), and Çağlar Kandemir (Rocks and Plants) presented the procedures and opportunities for registration and qualification of domestic companies, encouraging them to actively apply for upcoming opportunities.
Dr. Jelisaveta Georgieva-Jovevska, responsible for infrastructure and economic development at the Chamber, emphasized the readiness and capacity of Macedonian companies to engage in these significant infrastructure projects: “Our companies have decades of experience, both at home and abroad. We believe in a joint approach—merging domestic expertise with international standards.”
The Economic Chamber of North Macedonia reaffirmed its support for its members and called on all interested companies to reach out for assistance and resources related to engagement on the project.
